Iskander Guetta

Iskander helps welcome the most needy people in a more human way.

Iskander is born in 1996, in Lausanne Switzerland. After a scholarship in my hometown, he started studying design in 2014 and graduate in
2018 at ECAL, the local design school, from an Industrial design bachelor.

From a Moroccan mother and a Swiss-Tunisian father, he has been raised in Lausanne in a multi-cultural context. Being in the center of europe also made him sensitive to all european immigration topics and problems. Switzerland is a very protective country with a non-open politic about immigration. Also the situation of a lot of political and economic refugees in this country, during the last immigration crisis, was critical. It is one of the last countries that still builds anti-nuclear bunkers. In peacetime, many of these bunkers are a shelter for the homeless and migrants without housing. Living conditions there are really tough. It gives rise to demonstration from all these people sleeping underground, however it doesn’t solve this situation. Today they have been permanently housed around the country. Still, this country will meet again this situation, this is why he worked for his diploma on that topic. Abri + is a set of objects – a lamp, a small bag, a curtain and some hooks – allowing for a more decent space to live in.

This project tries to answer to an obvious necessity in a very standardised surrounding. It helps welcome the most needy people in a more human way.

Project: Abri +

Switzerland is one of the last countries that still builds anti-nuclear bunkers. In
peacetime, many of these bunkers are a shelter for the homeless and migrants

without housing. Living conditions there are really tough. Abri + is a set of ob-
jects – a lamp, a small bag, a curtain and some hooks – allowing for a more de-
cent space to live in.

This project tries to answer to an obvious necessity in a very standardised sur-
rounding. It helps welcome the most needy people in a more human way.
